Pono

This picture brings me so much happiness. It reminds me that miracles still happen. It reaffirms my belief in the power of prayer. And it gives me hope.

This is Pono. He last graced the blog back in December when he came with his parents over to visit right before Christmas.

Pono is a miracle.

About a month and a half ago, he almost drowned. When I went to see him in intensive care the day after it happened, he was hooked up to a million tubes and wires and being kept cold. I remember touching his hand and an overwhelming sense of calmness came over me. I never want to forget that feeling.

Day after day Pono has proved he's a fighter. He has defied the doctors' predictions. One day a doctor would say, "He's not doing this..." And the next day Pono would do it. Now, the only tube that remains is his feeding tube - but he's working on learning how to swallow and eat so he can get rid of that soon too :).

Kahea texted me the above picture on Tuesday - letting me know that Pono can now sit unassisted! The doctors think he will be walking soon.

Pono is my hero. :)
