I saw the movie Whip It on Saturday night. It started out slow but once Razor (the roller derby coach) came on screen it picked up. And got good. I kept thinking that Razor sounded just like Owen Wilson but looked nothing like Owen Wilson. Turns out it was Andrew Wilson (Owen & Luke Wilson's brother). He was one of the best characters. So witty. Kristin Wiig also did a spectacular job playing Maggie Mayhem. I might have to see it again - especially since I had to leave the theater to deal with a phone call from Xander (apparently Max and Evan were beating the tar out of each other). And I might have to buy the soundtrack - the band in the movie was really good. One word of advice - if you are thinking of letting your teenager see it I recommend seeing it first.

Friday night Ian and I watched Castle (thank goodness for Cox On-Demand). We had missed last Monday's episode because we were at The Killers concert. That show has some great one-liners. Like when they are looking at a murder victim with misspelled words all over her face and Castle says, "Looks like the English language was murdered as well." Or when they find a body with all the intestines taken out and Castle says, "Someone must have really hated his guts." Seriously. I usually don't like crime shows (too depressing) but this one is awesome because it doesn't take itself too seriously. It manages to be dramatic and funny. Not to mention Nathan Fillion. We loved him in Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible and now this. It's my favorite show on tv. Mondays at 9:00 pm on ABC.

I'm looking forward to Couples Retreat which comes out Friday. Vince Vaughn = hilarious.

Mickey Mouse in the House

Every school day at 7:30 a.m. all of my kids converge on the couch. Ben insists he is putting on his shoes. Alexander swears he's packing his backpack. But I know the truth. They are watching (while pretending not to watch) Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse. We discovered this show by accident - one morning Evan was terrorizing his brothers and in desperation I turned on the Disney channel.

Silence.

Laughter.

Their favorite part is the "hotdog dance". Max and Ben like the way Goofy does it. Evan likes Mickey. Xander pretends he doesn't know what we're talking about (but he totally does - I heard him telling Evan he likes the way Donald does it the best).

I think it's kind of cute...the way they all sit there, mesmerized by a mouse. I even tried to take a picture...but there was a revolt.

Things that are just not right...

Fashion forward Evan

Don't kill me but I am slowly becoming a fan of the skinny jean. I think it can be worn in certain instances. Like with a long shirt so they look like leggings (and you won't be able to see my big ghetto booty). What's happening to me? Am I going to like stirrup pants next? Will you see me wearing a neon green sweatshirt with stirrup pants and jelly shoes? I sincerely hope not. I think I've been watching too much Project Runway.

Why do bands feel the need to curse in their songs. Because DAMN IT! it ruins the whole stinkin' song when I have to turn down the volume or skip it even. There are so many awesome and creative words in the English language. Why do they have to resort to saying curse words? It's just not right.

There is way too much good tv on. Castle, Top Chef, Project Runway, SYTYCD, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, Biggest Loser, Glee. It makes it hard because we don't have DVR. I am constantly having to choose between being a mother and watching my favorite shows. Don't worry - I choose being a mother...most of the time. I think I'm going to have to break down and get DVR. Especially since a new Real World/Road Rules challenge is coming up. And just think of all the cake challenges I could tape! And Cake Boss! Ohhh...it's sounding better by the minute!

Why are kids mean to other kids? Specifically, why are kids mean to my kids? One of the kids on Ben's soccer team called him an idiot at his game on Saturday. What do I say to Ben? When really I feel like punching the kid in the head? I had a long talk with Ben, listing all of his awesome personality traits. I feel like I'm constantly trying to build my kids up while the world tears them down. Why can't we all just get along?

It's just not right.

Right now I'm watching...

Rob Dydrek's Fantasy Factory on MTV. It takes place in a big warehouse that is also a skate park and Rob's business offices. Rob is not only a skater but an entrepreneur. On on of my favorite episodes he met with an NBA player to discuss opening a restaurant together. When the guy showed up Rob walked out on stilts and challenged him to a one-on-one game of basketball. Rob really amazes me - on a recent episode he designed a whole bunch of "mini" skateboard parks that will be put in existing parks. He talked Carl's Jr. into sponsoring the first one - in Lafayette park in LA (which I guess is a really low-income area). He's so positive and funny. I LOVE that show.

My other favorite show (besides Biggest Loser - which changes peoples lives) is Castle on ABC. Ian and I really like Nathan Fillion - the lead actor. He was also in Firefly, Serenity and Dr. Horrible. He's such a witty actor. The show is a murder/mystery with enough humor and heart to keep me tuned in. LOVE it!

It's been hard for me to get into any shows lately because I've been biking/running at night. I've been watching LOST & American Idol sporadically. I still believe LOST is the best show on television. Smart, spooky & humorous. Although I do have a little bit of a love/hate relationship with that show.

Max and some random stuff

*Note: if you are not familiar with my church this next paragraph might not make sense to you.

Today at church I sat in on Jr. Primary singing time. The chorister was picking children's names from a jar with popsicle sticks and wouldn't you know, Max's name was selected. Then he had to pick a heart from off the wall. Each heart had a key phrase that was part of a song the primary would sing. So Max's name was picked and he happily picked the farthest heart on the other side of the room. When he brought it to the chorister she realized that it was a song that none of the kids knew. She then asked Max what his favorite song was so the kids could sing that instead. He briefly looked at her and then proceeded to look for another heart to pick (all the while me and the chorister are asking, "Max! Do you have a favorite song?" and he's happily ignoring us). He picks another heart and the song happens to be: "Mother, I love you". The kids sing the song. And then Max exclaims, "Just so you know, that is NOT my favorite song!" and keeps repeating that until he sits down. At this point I just pretended like he wasn't mine.

Have you been watching America's Best Dance Crew? Did you see this? And did you notice at the end the girl puts on her sunglasses while doing all those head spins. Seriously. I think Quest Crew might be in trouble.

Did you watch the Oscars? And see the opening when Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway sang together? SWEET. And the middle when Hugh Jackman and Beyonce did a little song and dance number? Pretty darn good, that's all I got to say. Enough to make me watch the whole show even though I had to listen to all the stars and their political rants. It seems like they are only tolerant of people who feel the same way they do. It irritates me. But I'm over it. Do you think Heath Ledger only won out of sympathy? I'm only asking because I didn't see Dark Knight.

Making music mixes makes me happy. Try saying that 10 times! I made a Coldplay mix and a Killers mix today and can't wait to listen to them.

Currently watching...

America's Best Dance Crew. It's no So You Think You Can Dance, but it's still good. Shane Sparks is a judge. I love that little guy. And this season Hok and Dominic (although they are calling him something different) are on one of the crews - Quest. Dude, they are AWESOME! You should really check it out.

Lost. If I could only remember to watch it. I saw part of the season opener - wooeee was that good! But forgot to watch Wednesday night. We don't have DVR so I guess I'll wait for re-runs. Darrel said Wednesdays episode was the best he's seen. Thanks for rubbing salt in my wound, Darrel.

I used to watch Grey's Anatomy and The Office, but these days I don't have the time or inclination to sit down and watch. Plus my house is super loud at that time and I hate screaming, "BE QUIET!" every two seconds.

Tuesday nights we all watch Biggest Loser. That show is changing lives. My boys love it. Last night I stayed up late watching Top Chef. It made me hungry for shrimp. Wait, I'm always hungry for shrimp. And Elmer's bean & cheese burritos. Mmmm, Elmers. Anyone want to go?
