Picasso in the making

My boys love to draw. The other day Max was irritated at Evan so Max drew a picture of Evan's future wife. Of course Evan didn't understand that Max was being mean. He even kissed the picture when Max told him to.

Max could be the next Picasso.

In other news: today we are heading up to the Lodge. Tiffany and Tricia (and their respective crews) are joining us. It should be fun.

We saw Couples Retreat on Saturday. Vince Vaughn was the best part of the movie and it still didn't hold a candle to Whip It (in my opinion).

I saw the movie Whip It on Saturday night. It started out slow but once Razor (the roller derby coach) came on screen it picked up. And got good. I kept thinking that Razor sounded just like Owen Wilson but looked nothing like Owen Wilson. Turns out it was Andrew Wilson (Owen & Luke Wilson's brother). He was one of the best characters. So witty. Kristin Wiig also did a spectacular job playing Maggie Mayhem. I might have to see it again - especially since I had to leave the theater to deal with a phone call from Xander (apparently Max and Evan were beating the tar out of each other). And I might have to buy the soundtrack - the band in the movie was really good. One word of advice - if you are thinking of letting your teenager see it I recommend seeing it first.

Friday night Ian and I watched Castle (thank goodness for Cox On-Demand). We had missed last Monday's episode because we were at The Killers concert. That show has some great one-liners. Like when they are looking at a murder victim with misspelled words all over her face and Castle says, "Looks like the English language was murdered as well." Or when they find a body with all the intestines taken out and Castle says, "Someone must have really hated his guts." Seriously. I usually don't like crime shows (too depressing) but this one is awesome because it doesn't take itself too seriously. It manages to be dramatic and funny. Not to mention Nathan Fillion. We loved him in Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible and now this. It's my favorite show on tv. Mondays at 9:00 pm on ABC.

I'm looking forward to Couples Retreat which comes out Friday. Vince Vaughn = hilarious.

What are you watching?

I love movies

I love going to the movies. Except for when I get bored or I just don't get the movie. Like the time Ian and I went to see "Burn After Reading" and were so bored that we left and snuck into "Tropic Thunder" which was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Hands down. I am laughing just thinking about it.

I love the summer movie season. My system for rating movies is simple - it has to keep me entertained so that I don't look at my watch wondering how much longer I have to sit in the theater. There are so many good movies - we've seen Wolverine, Star Trek and Up and we can't wait to see Transformers 2 and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (which was my favorite book, btw). I really liked Wolverine. I loved how it totally meshed with the other X-men movies and I LOVED the character Gambit. I really hope they put him in the next movie too.

But my favorite movie I've seen this year has been Star Trek. Maybe it's because J.J. Abrams is a genius (LOST - anyone?). But I loved it. You don't have to be a fan of the show to like this movie. It has action (wayyy lot of action), romance, humor and emotion. I might have teared up a few times (I'm getting really mushy in my old age). The guy that played Kirk was cute but I really liked the guy that played Spock. Dude, he WAS Spock. And he was kinda hot. Ian said the guy plays a bad guy on Heroes. I might have to start watching that show now.
